The Labyrinth

1 - Station of Walking The Labyrinth

The labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool, used for the purpose of prayer, mediation, reflection and contemplation.

It represents the path of live.  The winding contemplative walking (meditation) in toward the centre and out again symbolises a pilgrim's walk with God.

The labyrinth is not a maze: there are no tricks to it, and no dead ends.

The labyrinth has only one path which leads to the centre and out again.  If you make a misstep, you will simply end up at the centre or at the beginning.

THE THREE PHASES OF THE JOURNEY

Some people use the entering phase as an emptying, shedding or cleansing one.

To stay in the centre is an opportunity to receive from God.

The journey out can be used as a preparation for applying in the world whatever has been learned in the labyrinth.

For some this experience may occur at a sub-conscious leve.  Later, in the days and nights to come, you may come to know consciously God's messages for you that you received in the centre of the labyrinth.

HOW TO SUE THE LABYRINTH

Remove your shoes before entering.

Before you begin, stand at the entrance and clear your mind of expectations. Quiet your thinking, become aware of your breathing.

Reflect on those concerns you are bringing with you at this time. You may want to take a moment to open your heart to God or to say a prayer.

Follow the path in carefully (or prayerfully) at a pace that suits you, paying attention to your breathing and your body.

When you reach the centre sit or stand for a while and reflect on this experience.

Carefully complete the return journey.

Reflect on your experience as you put on your shoes.

WHEN CAN I ENTER

More than one person may enter the Labyrinth but be aware that you will need to step to the side to gently pass each other as you make the return journey.

Be considerate of others' need for space and silence.

You may choose to wait until others have finished before entering
